Our education navigation navigator works with families with children from age 0 to 12th grade, on accessing and navigating education systems. We work with families of preschool aged children to enroll in preschool experiences that will prepare them for kindergarten, and school aged children to get into school, be involved in extracurricular activities, and understand the system of learning.
Our main activities in this area include:
- Connecting families with birth to age 5 children to parenting and Pre-K opportunities to help prepare their young children for formalized school, detect any barriers to learning, and implement any early interventions that may be necessary.
- Helping students and families navigate the registration process in the public schools (as mandated by law).
- Helping translate important information for parents and orient parents to the US and local educational system.
- Offering educational support in the form of connecting students to existing after school activities and hosting programs in our space.
- Advocating for families when the educational system fails them.
- Teaching families how to advocate for themselves and connecting them with organizations that can help when needed.
- Advising our educational partners about how to better their systems to meet the needs of this community.
- Educating families about their rights and responsibilities as students and parents of a public school system.
