Founded in 2019 by four local women who were frustrated by the injustices faced by Newport’s ever growing Hispanic population and the lack of resources available to them. A survey of local residents showed Hispanics were not accessing social service agencies for help, and not involved in civic life. The COVID pandemic shut down the city and paralyzed the service industry, which is almost single-handedly supported by Hispanic workers. CLN mobilized to provide food and grocery gift cards to over 200 households in six weeks. Additional grant funding was made available to help support the most vulnerable members in our community through these difficult times. We continue to identify gaps in services and have partnered with community groups to build their programs to be more accessible and to build trust with families to access these badly needed services.
Educate, inform, mobilize and advocate for all Hispanics in Newport, as well as advise and partner with social services, education and government agencies, on how they best meet the needs of the Newport Hispanic Community. Through relationship and trust building, we will bolster needed services, ensure accessible systems, and create the communities confidence to access those services.
Conexión Latina Newport envisions a better, healthier and more fulfilling life for Hispanics living in Newport. We will continue to work with the community to create a prosperous, healthy and confident lifestyle that includes education, access and community involvement. Newport will be a city where all public Government, community and educational agencies will be capable of meeting the needs of the Hispanic community, will be fully accessible and will be a comfortable place for them to receive and give help and support.
